New fret board wood arrived today. This is a 5mm piece of Pau Ferro, a great wood for instrument fingerboard and comes from South America. This tonewood has a smooth feel and sonic characteristics similar to rosewood, but lighter in color and harder.
I will be using will be using this wood instead of rosewood now that CITES laws regulating how rosewood is traded internationally is now in effect. The Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna) is a global agreement that has existed since 1975 to ensure international trade of wildlife does not threaten the health of species and ecosystems. Pau ferro’s warm tone is balenced by its snappy attack, resulting in a crisp, clear sound ideal for fingerboards.
This first one will be included in a new guitar model at Solberg guitars coming in 2019. No more Telecaster or Stratocaster models unless ordered, the new guitars will have there own body and headstock shape.
